Case Study: KABO IT Infrastructure Consultancy

Quick Facts:
  • Project Type: Consultancy
  • Domain: IT restructuring
  • Time frame: 1 year

Scope:

Following the privatization of the company, KABO's new management realized the need to upgrade their whole IT department by concentrating on people, strategies and operations. OpenCraft was hired to design, develop, implement and maintain all of KABO's IT needs. OpenCraft responsibilities include:

  • Assessing all applications currently in use
  • Automating all manual processes when automation leads to positive ROI
  • Inventorying the current IT situation and assets
  • Defining and detailing the vision for the IT department
  • Determining the gaps between current situation and desired state
  • Finding and evaluating suppliers for the procurement of IT hardware and services
  • Assisting in the recruitment and transitioning of a new IT team

Execution:

OpenCraft recruited a specialized team of consultants to tackle different areas of the IT project. These areas currently include: commercial activities (POS automation), building a robust infrastructure that is suitable for the expected growth, and adjusting stock control and inventory systems. We were also aware that no processes nor IT tools can be effective without the upgrade of the workforce. OpenCraft has first put a strategic plan for the IT department steering them away from custom developed software. The next step was laying down an aggressive IT training for the company at large. Finally, we are currently involved in writing an RFP for the implementation of an ERP system that we will oversee.

Client Profile:

KABO is one of Egypt's largest textile manufacturers, specializing in undergarments. It currently has a workforce of 5,000 employees with 28 branches expected to grow to 64 by the end of 2007.
