Abdel-Karim is responsible for technical project management, software architecture, refining the company's strategic direction, and managing the company's software development processes and IT infrastructure. Embracing the open source philosophy coincides with his interest in knowledge management, web-based technologies, self-organization and emergence, open standards, open content, and software localization.
Abdel-Karim holds a BSc in Computer Science from The American University in Cairo with a minor in Mathematics and Electronics. Prior to founding OpenCraft, he held various development and research positions at SportsMEDIA Technology Corporation in the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, the Distributed and Real-Time Systems group (DiRT) at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and Step 9 Software Corporation in Washington DC.
When and if any time is left in the day, Abdel-Karim likes to spend time with his growing family, pick up his guitar and jam with his partners, explore culinary delights, and watch football games while thinking about the possibilities of web and TV convergence.
