As Technical Director, Karim is responsible for maintaining and communicating the strategic vision of the company. As such, he puts the organizing principles for most company activities, from software development lifecyle to employee recruitment, and follows up on their application with all OC team members, gathering feedback and refining the process. Karim also acts as architect for the internal IT infrastructure as well as customer projects, preparing technical proposals, selecting suitable open source tools to accomplish the job and planning project activities. A substantial part of his time is spent researching new tools, coding proof of concepts, exploring software trends, and problem-solving at all levels of the organization.

Karim's interests span a large spectrum of knowledge, from linguistics to economics to systems theory. His main focus is informatics, the science of information, and he believes that all other sciences reduce to this field. He aspires to work on challenging problems such as cognitive modeling, biocomputing, and fairness in P2P exchange.

Karim holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the American University in Cairo with a minor in Physics and Mathematics, and a Master's degree in Computer Science from Université de Montréal in the area of computer graphics.
